© No “Mo” Violence 2012 Welcome to the No Mo Violence Cultural Dance Group Our unique and dynamic dance group was founded in 1999 by Cathy Maestas, in memory of her son Geronimo “Mo” Maestas.  In 1993, Cathy’s life was forever changed by gang violence when her sixteen year old son, Geronimo “Mo” Maestas, was killed for his Denver Broncos jacket. Geronimo was not a gang member, yet an active and positive member of the Denver community.  The death of her son “Mo” inspired Cathy and sent her on a life-long mission to promote no violence and provide awareness to the youth and their families of our community about the tragic realities of gangs and violence; thus, the No “Mo” Violence Cultural Dance Group was formed.  The mission of the No “Mo” Violence Cultural Dance Group is to provide children and youth a constructive alternative to gang violence by offering a positive and creative outlet through dance.  Our group specializes in Mexican folklorico dance, break dancing, and hip hop. We are a very active dance group. We can have up to one performance every weekend. There is no other group in the greater Denver community that gets as much exposure as we do.  In order to prepare for our many performances, we practice each and every Thursday here at the Pecos Community Center at 6pm.  We have expert instructors who teach a variety of classes for both beginner and advanced dancers. We expect a lot from our dancers and their families. We are a heartfelt group that is committed to its mission and spreading the message of no violence in our community.  First and foremost, we need your commitment against violence. Once formally enrolled in our group, your dancer will sign a Pledge of Non- Violence.  In addition, we need our dancers to be committed to coming to practice, practicing at home, and attending performances once formally trained and prepared.   Our group is getting ready for a major breakthrough, and we are excited and honored you are here for the journey.  We assure you your child will learn many valuable lessons both in dance and in life.  God bless, and welcome to the No “Mo” Violence Cultural Dance Group family.
